Sumerizing thoughts about CSLA Web 2.0

I did really enjoy this journey. There were times when I was overwhelmed at the volume of resources and stuff to see out there. Much of what I saw was interesting in a "I will have to think about it for the future" sort of thing. Then there were some things like the online applications tool that I saw immediate use for. Some of the sites we were to visit were old friends, like Youtube, Libravox, and Librarything others such as the podcast sites were totally new to me.
All in all I need to synthesize what I have seen and done and remember it for the future when I am in the middle of a project and need a good resource, tool, or better way to do what I am doing.
I know that I will continue to visit some places to keep up to date with what is going on and to learn more about.
Thanks for creating this tutorial. It was fun and challenging.
I am looking forward to the CSLA conference this year! See you there.

Week 9 podcasts and ebooks

I have listened to podcasts. My cousin Katy did one for the public library up in Spokane. It was fun to hear her. So I had some trouble with Podcast.net. I couldn't get it to work at all, neither did Yahoo. Podcast Show was the best for me to use. I listened to a Muggle Cast about the Deathly Hallows. It was interesting to hear other's ideas. I also looked at some of the video's that were there. These are very like Youtube which I have seen too.
I also found shows on the Podcast Show everything from news shows to dramas. Very interesting.
Podcasts could be very useful as a book review tool. I know that I am not ready for that yet but it is a goal to keep in mind.
I have looked at Libravox before and I plan to listen to some classics that I read a long time ago or that I have never read. This would be a good place to guide teachers too if they are reading a classic in the classroom. They could read along with the reader.

There is still a lot out there to look at and I will be exploring as I have time.

Week:8 Librarything

I like library thing not so much for cataloging my own books but for looking for new reads. I like using the tags to search out books that I might like in a genre or a feel. Then I print off the list and trot myself down to the local county library or look it up on their on-line catalog.
It is a great way to find new reads in the type of books I like best.
As you can see I am not much of a writer but I am a voracious reader. So it is nice to find a place to easily find new reads...that is when I am not reading the books in my library so I can talk them up to my students.
Happy Reading!!!

Week 8 blog Zoho

Wow! This is great. I can see a lot of great uses for this application. This could eliminate a lot of emails that go round and round. one spot where a group of people could give feed back on a document they are creating for...whatever.  I like it!
Ok as you can see I am really jazz about this. I am working it with a document already and I only have one problem. I can't seem to find the undo button. But I am if nothing, persistant.
I wish I had known about this last year when the district librarians were putting together a presentation to new teachers.
What a great tool to find.

This is my blog

Well, I am posting on this blog again. Earlier I could not get into this one so I created a duplicate and now I can't find the other one. So please be assured I have blogged on all of the weeks in Web 2.0
The first week of school is going smoothly. Except the getting up early in the morning part. I should have practiced last week. Oh well.
So upward and onward

Week 6: Wikis

Greetings all,
I finally have finished directing music for "Oklahoma" it was a great production but I am ready to to focus on school now and finish web2.0.
I have looked a some Wikis and I like the idea of using a wiki for students to review books.
I left a comment on the Sandbox about doing a Battle of the Books. Check it out and let me know if you have any ideas.
Right now I am hip deep in textbook check-out. Next week we start orientations and open the library officially for book check out.
Whew, I'm bushed. Lot's of exciting things to bring to the library

Flckr

Ok so here I am trying to do this blog for the second time. Do you know that after you write you need to actually post it???? Oh well, so I played around with Flickr and made my own account. I also had created a Picassa account earlier this year do gather photos of the district libraries for a presentation to the board. I like Flickr better. It is easier for me to use. I have posted some stuff about me and my library there.
I have a picture of my son, the starving actor and one of my daughter and her new husband.
By the way, my son is actually in Pirates III. You won't recognise him, he is one of the soldiers in the very beginning. He had to go to Soldier School to learn to march and use the gun. We are very proud.
So back to Flckr. I added some photos of my library for all to see. I don't have a very good picture of myself or I would add it and try to upload it to the blog too.
Here's a question. Can you use any of the public photos on Flickr for something like a yearbook cover? We needed a beach picture for this year's addition and we had a dreadful time finding something that was free. I think I will have to research this.
